New price for Multicam Logger
18/12/12 17:00 Filed in: News | MulticamLogger
As of December 18th, 2012, the price of Multicam Logger is set to USD 3.495 / EUR 2.495.
This is a big step up from the old price and it is not something Softron Media Services usually does. We usually go down in price. The reason is simple to understand and is linked to the good old world of Patent that you all heard about.
We have been contacted recently by a Patent holder saying that Multicam Logger infringed one of its patent. Starting from there, we had 3 choices: reach an agreement, start a long and costly legal battle or kill the product. As we did not want to discontinue such a nice product and by deference to our customers, we have chosen the first option. But this has a cost that we must unfortunately reflect on the price of the product.
We are truly sorry about that, and we sure hope that Multicam Logger will continue to have a great success and you will understand our position.

RELEASE: Create Final Cut Pro X Multicam files automatically
MovieRecorder and MovieRecorder Control have been updated today to allow for easier integration with Final Cut Pro X.
With MovieRecorder Control 2.1 you can now create multicam clips for Final Cut Pro X automatically without any need to do anything else manually.
MovieRecorder is the natural companion to Final Cut Pro X when working in a multicam environment. With the appropriate hardware, multiple streams can be captured on one single MacPro (up to 8 SD or 4 HD)using the corresponding number of MovieReorder licenses. In addition to its multiple channel ingest efficiency, MovieRecorder has a multicam feature so that users can start editing the multicam clip while the file is still being recorded.
When working in a multi-cam environment, the usual workflow would be to first start the recording for each angle, then find the files in your shared storage, import the files in Final Cut Pro X. Then you would select all of the media you have just imported and select File > New Multicam Clip from the menu. Next you would have to make sure to select the proper settings to make the multi-cam clip. And finally once the multi-cam clip is created, you will have to create a new project and drag and drop the multi-cam clip in the project. Only then can start you working with multi-cam.
The “Softron Way” - When using MovieRecorder and MovieRecorder Control, you click on the gang record button in MovieRecorder Control to start recording all the camera angles at once, then just wait a few seconds for all the work to be done for you. MovieRecorder Control will import all the camera angles, create the multi-cam clip and the project for you in Final Cut Pro X . And you can start editing your multi-cam clip immediately, while it is still being recorded. Easier then that is just not possible. You can also just store the XML file for a later use if you want to edit your multicam clip later on.
Download the DEMO versions of MovieRecorder and MovieRecorder Control today and find out for yourself.
Note that MovieRecorder Control 2.1 requires MovieRecorder 2.3b6 or later.

RELEASE : MovieRecorder 2.0.1 - NOW with support for XDCAM EX
MovieRecorder 2.0.1 fixes some important issues such as some movie files not being closed properly, but it also brings a few new features such as Offset TC for Batch Captures, or the support for XDCAM EX.
The XDCAM EX codec is very nice as it has a very low Data Rate. Be aware though that due to the Edit-while-Ingest capability, the data rate of the file will not be 35Mb/sec as it usually is, but rather around 50Mb/sec. Also, this is a very CPU intensive codec, and thus we do not recommend doing DUAL ingest with any current MacPro, and Single ingest can only be done in a recent MacPro with sufficient Memory. but of course you are free to test it with the DEMO version. If you experience any Drop frame issue, you can try lowering the preview quality and frame rate.
What’s new in MovieRecorder 2.0.1 ?
• implemented preview quality/frame rate in the preferences
• solved an issue with batch capture (wrong file ending)
• solved an issue with files never being closed even after a stop
• fixed memory leak in the preview image generation
• fixed MacOS 10.4.11 compatibility problems
• fixed a problem when finishing movies (audio was incorrect or too short)
• fixed issues when terminating a movie (incorrect samples were written to disk)
• added a QuickTime atom
• fixed problems with JPEG thumbnail
• added support for XDCAM EX codecs
• fixed a bug in Batch Capture when entering timecodes and durations
• added VTR in/out point offsets in the batch capture settings
• added support for pre-allocation on Omneon servers
• fixed a rounding issue with the timecode track
• fixed duration problem when using scheduled, timer and VTR modes
• fixed a problem when recording 16 tracks
• decreased bitrate of proxy MP4 files
• fixed a rounding issue in 29.97fps
